Hello fellow classmates,
My name is Kelly Greene and I'm a master's student in Health Studies. Barring any unforeseen complications, I will be graduating this December.
I'm about to celebrate my 53rd birthday at the end of the month. I've been married for 32 years, and have two adult children, ages 28 and 26. I currently work as a grant administrator for an area community college, but once my MS is complete, I will most likely be looking for something new.
The health issue which most concerns me, and the problem that I most want to focus on as I finish up this degree, is the issue of food insecurity, especially among our nation's children. I find it disheartening that, in this, the richest nation in the world, one in five children goes to bed hungry every night. In this land of plenty, that's simply unacceptable.
I hope everyone has a great summer, and a successful semester. See you soon!
Good morning Kelly!
ReplyDeleteI cannot wait to learn more about food insecurity. I tend to focus my attention on issues affecting the college level since that is where I want to end up in my career. So admittedly, I tend to be ignorant of issues affecting other ages. There is so much to learn and I know it is a major concern often overlooked. I look forward to learning more.

Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI think that you have chosen a very relevant and important topic to focus on this semester. I am looking forward to learning more about food insecurity and some things we can do as a society to help improve the situation. I am also expected to graduate in December so I hope to see you at the graduation ceremony! Good luck this semester and I look forward to following your blog throughout.
Hi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteI think our nation has forgotten about this important issue. I feel like we hear about other countries and their food insecurities but what about the U.S.? Just the other day my nephew was explaining to my sister how one of his friends never has lunch so my sister makes sure to pack two lunches so he can give this poor kid something to eat. Now, I believe all the boys at the lunch table take turns bringing lunch. Isn't that great? I'm very interested in this topic and I'm looking forward to hearing more.
